What is a Natural Scent?
From soothing lavender to refreshing lemongrass, we beautifully scent all of our products using natural fragrances derived from essential oils.
What is a natural scent?
According to the International Fragrance Association (IFRA), natural fragrances must comply with the International Organization for Standardization’s ISO 9235 terms and definitions for aromatic natural raw materials.
ISO 9235 states natural aromatic raw materials are “of vegetal, animal or microbiological origin, as such, obtained by physical, enzymatic or microbiological processes, or obtained by traditional preparation processes (e.g. extraction, distillation, heating, torrefaction, fermentation).”
Natural fragrances can include essential oils, fractions of essential oils, isolates, exudates such as resins, distillates, extracts and volatile concentrates.
How do we use essential oils?
We use a mixture of pure essential oils and scents derived from essential oils to beautifully fragrance all of our products.
They are non-GMO, vegan, gluten-free and free of allergens like nuts or fish.
We carefully source our ingredients from ISO 9235 compliant suppliers to ensure we use only the highest quality essential oils.
What to look out for?
If you prefer to avoid synthetic fragrances, here are a few things to look out for on ingredient labels:
- The word “perfume” or “parfum”
- The word “fragrance” that is not noted as natural
Perfumes are always synthetic fragrances, and products using synthetic fragrances will often omit ingredients and replace them with the umbrella term, “fragrance.” If the fragrance is not specifically called out as being natural, it is most likely synthetic.
The lack of strict regulation when it comes to natural products can make it difficult to know what exactly goes into your products, so our goal is to be as transparent as possible.
